Type of light fixtures

Chandeliers

Defined as a pendant light with many extended "arms", chandeliers are a classic ceiling light option. Once reserved for the formal dining room, chandeliers are making their way into every nook and cranny of the home, from the children's bedroom to the master bathroom!

Pendant

Unlike chandeliers, pendant lights typically consist of a single light source (cloth or glass covering the bulb or bulb). They are more modern and less formal than chandeliers, and are gaining popularity in halls, dining rooms, and countless other areas of the home.

Flat mount

These ceiling lights are installed in line with the ceiling, making them an ideal choice for rooms with low ceilings or tight spaces with doors that can reach lower mounts.

In addition to being one of the easiest to install (especially if the space is already wired), they are also some of the most versatile fixtures.

However, they are not ideal for large spaces; Be sure to find one with plenty of power and complete with a sconce or lamp.

Semi-concave stand

Extending below the ceiling, semi-concealed luminaires provide wider illumination than recessed luminaires because light can escape from the bottom and top of the globe.

They tend to be a bit more expensive than the former, but often have a sleek look that rivals the form of a chandelier (and makes a pretty obvious statement).

Consider using semi-concealed fixtures for spaces that are too small to accommodate a sophisticated chandelier, but still need a special decorative touch (like a hallway or small entryway).

Light tracking

One of the most practical ceiling lights, track lighting is technically a semi-flat type with multiple adjustable heads.

Track lighting systems are ideal for large spaces such as kitchens or living rooms (especially modern environments), allowing you to position light to hit where you need it most.

Ceiling fans

More and more homeowners are replacing basic ceiling lights with ceiling fans to enhance the value and comfort of their homes.

Most ceiling fans these days have the option to add a luminaire, making them extremely practical for almost any room.
